Project Overview

Kvesheti-Kobi Highway Project is the South-North Corridor of Georgia. It is located and built in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region of Georgia in order to bypass the existing mountainous highway. The construction schedule plan is 4 years (from 2019 to 2023). The total length of the LOTl tunnel section is about 10km, including a single-bore double track main tunnel of 9km and highway of 1km. The length of the tunnel excavated by TBM is 8860m. The project owner is the Georgian Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure.

This project is configured with the largest diameter hard rock TBM in the world, where the excavation diameter is 15.084m (new cutterhead). The cutterhead uses Q355D as its material and adopts 4 side sections and 2 central section design.
